Class Action Lawsuit: Wheelchair/Scooter Access Barriers at California Taco Bells

A class-action lawsuit is currently pending in California challenging barriers at corporate-owned Taco Bell restaurants in that state. You may be a member of the class if you have a disability, use a wheelchair or scooter, and have encountered one of these barriers at a covered Taco Bell restaurant:

bullet Narrow “queue lines” -- the barriers causing customers to form one line to the cash register.
bullet Doors that are too narrow or hard to open.
bullet Inaccessible restrooms.
bullet Inaccessible parking.
bullet Excessive cross-slope in parking lots or sidewalks.
bullet Inaccessible condiments or other items.
bullet Inaccessible seating.
bullet Other wheelchair or scooter access problems.

If the litigation is successful, Taco Bell will be required to remedy its barriers and class members will be entitled to claim damages. The class is seeking up to $4,000 for each time a class member encountered a barrier at a covered Taco Bell. For example, a class member may be entitled to collect damages for each time he or she had difficulty parking, had difficulty getting to the counter because of a narrow queue line, had difficulty using the restroom because it was too small or obstructed, or encountered other barriers.

This website has been established by class counsel to let you know which Taco Bell restaurants are covered, and to keep you posted on developments in the litigation. If you send us your contact information, we will send you updates on the litigation and automatically contact you if a process for claiming damages is put in place.
